My Answers …

What are you currently reading?

I am 1/6 of the way through this fascinating biography of the wives of Henry VIII.  The book is divided into 6 sections describing each of the amazing women Henry VIII, one of the most famous and controversial kings of England, took on as his wives.  So far this is an excellent historical biography by Alison Weir.

The Six Wives of Henry VIII

Weir has tirelessly made her way through the entire labyrinth of Tudor history to tell the collective story of the six wives of Henry VIII–a vivid, full-blooded portrait of six very different women–in a work of sound and brilliant scholarship.”

What did you just finish reading?

I just finished reading The Memoirs of Mary Queen of Scots.  A review can be found here.

The Memoirs of Mary Queen of Scots by Carolly Erickson follows the life and love of Queen Mary the sixteenth century ruler of Scotland and heir to the English throne.

What do you think you’ll read next?

A Vindication of the Rights of Women is the first book in the 2011 – A Year of Feminist Classics Challenge.  I hope to start reading this book today.

A Vindication of the Rights of Women

“Passionate and forthright, A Vindication of the Rights of Woman attacked the prevailing view of docile, decorative femininity and instead laid out the principles of emancipation: an equal education for girls and boys, an end to prejudice, and the call for women to become defined by their profession, not their partner.”
